BLANK SL8 Exhibition Space at Port Authority
A press release from the Times Square Alliance about the Pop-Up shop at Port Authority, designed by super interesting! architecture.design.strategies and on display until May 30th.
Kian Goh and John Bruce transformed a long unused storefront in the Port Authority Bus Terminal building into a temporary fashion retail and art exhibition space. The new space, developed by the Times Square Alliance and The Fashion Center Business Improvement District, provides young fashion designers and artists an exciting and highly visible stage to display and sell their work.

“Save Fashion” pop-up store runs from May 1st to May 30th, 2009. Organized by Refinery 29, the month long event will showcase the merchandise of seven to ten designers each week, featuring a mix of both established and young up-and-coming creators in an ongoing sample sale and value-driven shopping experience.
Flexibility and an attention to identity inform the design of the 2500 square foot space, located on the corner of 8th Avenue and 41st Street. Unusual deployment of off-the-shelf fluorescent strip lights function as chandelier, merchandise lighting and giant “LCD-style” signage, all reflected off a glossy black floor. Oversized, translucent lace supergraphics in the window of the white space add to the feeling of a more stripped-down, exuberant side of New York City creativity.
