What is going on with Governor's Island? The competition proposals were launched on May 31st, Teams expoected to hear the results from GIPEC in late summer, and still nothng. Is this another case of a competition, designed entirely to generate public interest in the project, but with no real possibility of work for the 5 teams that no doubt spent more than their competition fee on their entries?
Further, about a month ago Bloomberg announced that he wanted to turn Governor's Island into a research facility for public health academics, and, from the rendering, a circus?
Has the most significant landscape competition since Downsview been sidelined by the ambitions of an otherwise progressive, but development happy mayor?
